Senator Cory Gardner, More sanctions against NK human rights abuses are necessary

Last month U.S. Senator Cory Gardner of Colorado introduced a resolution that would list put back North Korea on the list of state sponsors of terrorism and intensify sanctions against the nation. His team again expressed the necessity of stronger North Korean sanctions.

National security advisor of Senator Gardner, Igor Khrestin, attended a discussion held in Heritage Foundation, which is based in Washington DC, on 12th. In this event, Mr. Khrestin emphasized that to change North Korean regime and to improve North Korean human rights conditions, sanctions against North Korean human rights infringements should increase.

He said that the names of the organizations or individuals involving in human rights abuses in North Korea should be clearly revealed and financial penalty should be imposed upon them. He also remarked that the UN COI report on North Korea was not sufficient.

He also mentioned about Americas 2007 sanctions on Banco Delta Asia Bank. To change North Korea, America should use financial sanctions, to which North Koreans react sensitively.

His such assertions are in line with senator Gardners opinions. Senator Gardner called for additional sanctions of America on North Korea, in a last months senate meeting. At that time, he criticized Obama Administrations strategic patience policy as failure and America should revise their foreign policy directions on North Korea.
