Border Guards Break Promise of Helping Defection

There have been a number of recent cases of North Korean border guards double-crossing attempting defectors and smugglers. A source from inside North Korea tells Daily NK about a case of attempting defectors being arrested as soon as they tried to cross the River Tumen despite being promised help by a border guard. It is thought the guards, who are offered bribes by in return for help crossing the border, are becoming increasingly prepared to double-cross defectors in order to reap rewards from the regime.
