Recently, cafés have been increasingly appearing in Pyongyang and the price of coffee there is almost the same as a North Korean laborers monthly wage, the Chosun Ilbo reported.
The price of a cup of coffee in one of Pyongyangs cafés is normally $3.50 (3800 won). As the number of Pyongyang citizens who enjoy coffee is increasing, drip coffee, espresso, cappuccino, and other beverages are selling well in the cafés. Most North Korean people are suffering from a food shortage, while members of the privileged class in Pyongyang are enjoying expensive coffee and imported goods, exemplifying the extreme gap between the rich and poor in North Korea.
