According to the Chosun Ilbo, the North Korean media recently started expounding the virtues of the North's construction of new greenhouses for vegetables and facilities for livestock.
The North Korea's Korean Central Broadcasting Station reported that a 300,000-size greenhouse for vegetable production is being constructed in Hamheung, South Hamkyung Province. A second greenhouse is being built in Nampo, North Pyongan Province. Also, a Greenhouse Construction Headquarters has been created in Jagang Province, so this shows that the North Korean regime is taking a systematic approach to their building of new greenhouses.
Also, the Korean Central Broadcasting Station reported that large scale livestock facilities are being constructed in Sepo, Pyeongkang and Echun region in Kangwon Province. The report said that cows, goats, sheep, rabbits, etc. will be raised in the new facilities.
Some experts have observed that the North Korean regime have placed great emphasis on vegetable and livestock production because it is attempting to raise the quality of food for the people. However, if the regime wants to operate these facilities on an ongoing basis, they will need China and outside support.
