The North Korean regime has moved to curtail family visits to China. The ban on family visits has been implemented on the run-up to the first anniversary of Kim Jong Ils death.
A Daily NK source said that, The overseas department of the National Security Agency (NSA) has had a blanket ban on the issuance of new transit permits for family visits to China in place since the start of November. Those who were issued transit documents in October are still being allowed to leave, but they must all submit a form promising to return before the Generals memorial day.
According to the source, the ban seems to have been introduced so that every citizen participates in the commemoration of Kim Jong Ils death. The source added that, This was one of Marshal Kim Jong Euns special instructions.
The ban can be seen as a wider attempt by the Kim Jong Eun regime to make travel more difficult. Over the last year, the granting of legal travel documents has been made harder. The regime has also moved to crackdown on illicit border crossing over the past few months.
