The North Korean authorities are still working to bring society under full ideological control following the shocking execution of Jang Sung Taek earlier this month. Christmas Eve marks the birth of Kim Jong Euns decreased grandmother. This year the occasion was used to generate loyalty to Kim Jong Euns regime rather than to celebrate his grandmothers birth. According to a Daily NK source from Yangkang Province, loyalty song gatherings were held by units of the Womens Union to mark the occasion. In previous years the norm was to sing about Mother Kim Jong Suk; however, this year there were more songs about Kim Jong Eun. The source stated, We sang more songs promising loyalty to the General than we did songs or poems about Mother. In fact, the first song we sang at the meeting was We Cannot Live without Him. Since Jangs execution, the North Korean regime has emphasized loyalty to Kim Jong Eun every day to ensure that peoples allegiances dont waver.
